the little song that could

well nice reviews keep coming in on the song heart of steel.. i don’t know if anyone finds it interesting how songs get written, but we are so amazed  that Galactic ended up recording this song and now that it has been getting some notice..well when you are a songwriter/composer/producer in the world, it’s very difficult and competitive and when something works, you are really proud of it. perhaps it sounds like uber-reflection but personally i am always interested in the little chains across the world that people make through art and music.. and so many odd coincidences happen when you are creating stuff and relating it to the world.. just little things. Like the other day i woke up in the morning with the beatles “baby’s in black” in my mind.. and then within an hour, Tim Carter texted me saying he had ben listening to “baby’s coming back” that same morning..by Jellyfish. Anyways it sounds silly perhaps, but at the time, when he said that, i could almost see the wavelength we were both on in front of my eyes. It was as if his thoughts, words, and actions, were traveling on the same particles that carry radio waves – instantaneous. both listening to songs from the past about similar things..  If you have a radio on 100 miles away, and you turn on yours here, the signal is instant.. it’s a miracle. And I think the wavelengths we create between people are the same kind of wavelengths.. we are radio transmitters to one another, somehow, in some way that we can’t understand. Anyways when I lived in New Orleans for a couple of months a lot of black and white magic happened. I sat in a doorway during a tremendous rainstorm, sweating, wet, and buzzed on life. I wrote lyrics on the back of a flyer and let them transform into melodies, phrases, choruses, and recordings.. and once when i went back to write some more with Galactic, with fellow rondo brother Brandon and Latrice Barnett, and the Houseman was feeling a bit ill, in fact he had some scary news at the hospital about potential kidney problems, and he was very upset.. and the track from the band was playing on the speakers.. and we were looking for the reason to sing to it. and walked in the room and said “houseman, you have a heart of steel”. and then i paused and said ” and you have a heart of gold”. and i meant it because we were close to him. and then i told him he was going to be OK and he would spend alot more quality time with his daughter.. and then we were talk-singing over the track, and Brandon said a rhythm..da da DAAA da da.. and then latrice starting writing down lyrics.. and i threw some words at her.. little recognizable things like ring of fire, voodooqueen.. mistakes. Regret. And she put it all together and as she usually does, said, “turn on the mic” and she recorded a quick demo. And years passed by and they let Irma Thomas hear the tune and she recorded it… and now you can read about it happening here:  http://www.nola.com/music/index.ssf/2010/02/galactic_mixes_up_the_past_and.html

rondos participate in yoko remix contest and more…

happy new year from the rondo brothers blog! so far this has been a good 2010, what can we say. we have a new record coming out on Oglio?DMAFT records that combines hip hop with great melodies with great beats and most importantly a NEW SUPERHERO!  Yes, that’s right the FOREIGN GLOBESTER has arrived. More to come on this front.. Also, we have been picked out of hundreds of remixes by the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band as one of the winning remixers for her remix contest..!!! This is so amazing. It was amazing to sit and work on a song with her voice, and then to know that she heard it – is really cool. The world just seems to get smaller and smaller. And it seems like a good thing somehow. So please listen to that remix we did here – it’s straight from the heart. In other news.. we worked a bunch on these orchestral Sprint spots that will be showing movie theatres.. that was fun.  I guess they start soon – you’ll see a western scene, a zombie scene, and a WWII scene. That’s us. We are in the midst of two other big album projects – with a band called The Kin and a band called Bayonics. More to come on all this. And, Brandon of the rondo brothers opened a cupcake bakery! it’s called Mission Minis and it’s in the Mission in San Francisco on 21st at Capp. Hmmm.. that might be about all for now. Keep in touch..!!

New Year is Going to be Great

Zombies This Will Be Our YearThis is going to be a great year. I have a feeling in my bones. On the Rondo Brothers front.. we will be releasing an album that we can’t stop playing, loud. The Foreign Globester, on Oglio/DMAFT records. We will be releasing music with our friends from Australia The Kin. We will be recording in Caspar, CA, and Berkeley, CA with Opus Music. We will be working with the uber talented Cyndi Harvell. We will represent as producers on the Bayonics record. We will have several big old orchestral bits playing in some Sprint Theatre spots. We will be spreading love everywhere we can and supporting our many friends. As the infamous Zombies, said, This Will Be Our Year, Took A Long Time To Come.
